OUTSTANDING! This place is great! The staff are friendly and the food is great! They have a lot of Ice Cream flavors such as Superman, French Vanilla, Cotton Candy, Bubble Gum, and etc. This place is 100% worth your time!

Awesome little diner but we came here purely for the I scream which was delicious. Staff helpful & friendly with a great vibe. Great seating outside to fit & enjoy the warm Charleston weather.

I love the old fashioned style if this deli. I thought I would just telex intently eat my lunch in anticipation for the amazing ice cream at the end. However, it turns out the food was delis hours too. Portions are very large with an average price per meal of $7-12 for lunch. The service was excellent and they were fully staffed. The guy scooping our ice cream was upbeat and funny. The ice cream selection was so expansive and unique. My favorite was triple chocolate, closely followed by banana pudding.

My kids love coming here. These guys don't skimp on the scoops. My favorite is white chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream. The fries are crispy crinkles of hot goodness. Skip the burgers and go for the BLT and/or grilled cheese. They also make a nice chef salad. The small size is pretty filling.

The only thing that got this store 2 stars was how delicious the food was. I got the chili dog and a strawberry milkshake and I loved it. However, our server literally rolled his eyes at me when I ordered my drink. He never came back to the table to give us our check and we sat there for 10 minutes before we had to get up to get it. All of the other servers were very friendly and took good care of their tables.

There are times when you have a hankering for a good no-frills burger and fries. This is one of my favorite places to go when I get that sort of hankering. Sometimes we pop in just for a cherry or vanilla coke and a side of fries, and sometimes it's for an ice cream cone. Every time the food is spot-on for what I want and the service is always friendly. Another bonus is that they use 12 strips of bacon for their BLT's! 12 strips of B-A-C-O-N! That's hard to top.

I have been coming here for years. Food and service top notch. Great variety. Good locals spot. Prices are a little high as tourists have found our little secret

ICE CREAM!!! I like going here for some good old fashion ice cream. The prices for sundaes and such are a little pricey but they are HUGE! So it is a great place to go and share a treat. The service is a little slow but just do a few jumping jacks while you wait to burn some calories... I'm a problem solver.

The place hasn't changed in years. Maybe ever. I guess that's part of the charm. Ice cream is good. It's why we usually come. I love the chili and grilled cheese. Here's the thing about this place. And I've been going a few times a year for a long time...you NEVER see any of the staff smiling. They look at customers kind of blankly. There is no genuine friendliness in their voices. Never has been. This place could probably increase their income by 25% by taking on a more positive and engaging service philosophy, and word would spread that the Ye Olde Fashioned is really great with their customers. For an area that is now world-renowned for hospitality, this place needs to play catch up. We will still probably come a few times a year for the ice cream and an occasional diner-type meal. Just wish they would step it up a bit.

I love their ice cream here! I don't think I would ever get food at this particular location. Last time I went to get ice cream, the girl making sandwiches had no gloves on while handling the food. This was a major turn off. I love the ice cream flavors though.

Great for ice-cream. I recommend a banana split. Don't bother with most the food items though. Grilled cheese is okay. That is the highlight of lunch menu.

The employees here always deliver speedy service and are extremely polite...which is hard to find these days. This place never fails when you need a special treat. Try the grilled cheese with bacon (it is AwEsOmE) and a chocolate-banana shake. Easy diner food done really well :-)

Kids liked it so that's always good. I had a brownie Sunday that was tasty. We would come back for sure. The hot foods such as burgers looked good as well but we only came for sweets this time.

Definitely an ice cream shop worth my time. They serve a club with over 10 slices of bacon! ....lots of heesee grilled cheese!!! and much more. scoops of ice cream require an appetite and you should be prepared to share Sundays and Banana Splits! Definitely stop by...

The ice cream. Just the ice cream. It's superior. Fresh, flavorful. Just delicious. I came here five years ago and remembered the chocolate peanut butter as the best ice cream I'd ever had. The king street location has closed since my last visit, but the mt pleasant shoppe has the same glorious treat. Truly exceptional stuff. And the kid's French vanilla was amazing too.

I can only speak for the ice cream, but the food looked and smelled pretty good. One diner from New York was sitting near us and gave me the thumbs up to his wings and onion rings. We sat and compared notes from different restaurants around Charleston and dude was pretty spot on, so I would trust his taste!!! I had the chocolate ice cream on a sugar cone and enjoyed it almost as much as my favorite Ben & Jerry's (Chocolate Therapy). My wife had a mint chocolate chip sundae and the kids had vanilla and banana pudding. Everyone was happy with their order. We really like the diner style of the interior. Took me back 30+ years to when I was a kid peaking into the refrigerated glass to see which flavor I wanted to try. Something about the way the smell of ice cream, burgers, fries and hot dogs mix to create a unique aroma is just comforting to me. We has a place in Chicago called Taurus Flavors that smelled the same, so walking in triggered a great childhood memory for me. I really like this place and look forward to returning on our next visit to Charleston!!

Some of the best homemade ice cream I have ever had. Caramel turtle cheesecake and java chunk are insane!

BLT and vanilla malt are fantastic but place is untidy, lettuce is old and service is very gruff. Looks like there was a French fry fight by all the fries on the floor. Great food menu.

This review is only based on the Ice Cream i had from here. I had the praline pecan ice cream and it was freaking awesome, not only that it was stacked huge in a waffle cone at a very inexpensive price. I recommend you go get some Ice Cream NOW!

I wanted to eat somewhere local while we were visiting the Charleston area and was so disappointed in this place. The staff wasn't all that friendly (especially the cashier). The food was sub-par, like school cafeteria fare. I didn't even bother with the ice cream, and, after reading one of the reviews on here, I'm glad I didn't.

My family and friends love this place. For the last three summers (and sometimes in between) we spend time in Charleston/Mt. Pleasant, SC. There we meet up with family and college buddies. This place is on the "must go" list EVERY time. :) The BLT - just get it. Then you can thank me later! ;) The fries are always fresh and piping hot! The hot dogs (if you are a hot dog fan) are a true rival to the Cosmic dog you find just down the street - and that is saying something! The ice cream is scrumptious! As I said - we LOVE this place!

I'm sure that Brian and Mike (see other reviews) are otherwise wonderful guys but, they are completely off base with their one-star reviews. Went back again for dinner with my girl last night. I had the SuperDawg (footlong w/ chili, slaw, etc) and a soft drink; she had a cheese burger with fries and a soft drink. Both tasted great and very totally filling. Then we split a single cone of Milky Way ice cream which, apparently, comes with TWO scoops and was delicious! Everything came in less than 20 dollars. I'd also like to add that the staff was friendly and courteous. Even though they were starting to close up on a Monday night, they went about their work quietly and unobtrusively, never making us feel unwelcomed or rushed. You want a complaint? Their video games could use a little sprucing up. Whatever. We will most certainly be going back and taking our friends.

One of my good friends always goes here so I decided to try it after a long day at the beach. I only had the ice cream when I went and it was delicious. I got the black and white sundae (vanilla and chocolate ice cream with marshmallow and fudge) and it was one of the most delicious sundaes I have ever had. They have a wide variety of flavors of ice cream(the milkway was delicious) and the staff is very friendly. I was happy that I found this place since there is not a lot of diners left.

When was the last time you had a crinkle cut French fry? No, seriously. This is just one of the many surprises that we stumbled upon at the Ye OleFashioned Ice Cream & Sandwich Café in Mt. Pleasant this past weekend. With limited time for lunch we turned into the parking lot of this restaurant and I have to say that overall, I was pleasantly surprised. Although I've driven by it several times, I had ventured inside. In the area since 1972 it's been voted the place for the "Best Ice Cream" by many publications for several years. Take a step back in time when you enter and are quickly greeted by a few high school kids working as servers. A long counter welcomes you and to your right there is an ice cream oasis of 36 flavors! We couldn't decide if we wanted ice cream as our entrée, but we knew it was in our future. For a small sandwich café the menu is extensive. There are 24+ sandwiches, many choices of burgers and hot dogs, salads, soups and ice cream treats. There is also a "specials" section that pairs an item with various things on the menu. This is where we made our selections for lunch. My husband ordered the "World Famous BLT" that claimed to be made with 10 slices of bacon. It was also to be served with a large scoop of potato salad, two scoops of ice cream and a fountain beverage. I chose a cheeseburger served with fries and a fountain beverage. Both items were $7.89 and we felt like we got a bargain. Although the café was busy our lunch was served in six minutes. My burger and the BLT were both a large portion and served very hot. Within a few minutes of tasting our lunch the crinkle cut French fries arrived. As I began to watch other patrons receive their meals they were served in the same fashion. Once things are ready - out they come. I thought about this for a minute and wondered if it would be better if everything was delivered at once. That would have meant that something had to "wait" for the fries to be cooked and honestly, the fries were out in a blink of an eye and almost too hot to eat. I concluded that it's a service system that's not broken and doesn't need fixing. My burger was not a "gourmet" burger by any stretch of the imagination, but it was good and actually too large to finish. The same held true for the fries that we ended up splitting. The potato salad was something I would not recommend. If I'm not mistaken the salad was very similar to the processed variety that you would find in the deli of a grocery store. Hardly memorable. The BLT got rave reviews. Served on white toast (how else would you order it?), the bacon was crisp, tasty and more than abundant. It reminded me of something my dad would have made for me when I ran home for lunch in grammar school. Nothing fancy, just good. And then it was time for dessert. There's something about an ice cream shop that brings out the little kid in everyone. When it was time to order the ice cream that was included in my husband's meal the manager (who was clearing our plates) said, "Just go up to the counter and pick what you want." With wide eyes my husband studied the varieties and slowly, but surely landed on one scoop of southern peach and one of blueberry cheesecake. We took these to go and I had to just about arm wrestle him for a taste. All in our bill for lunch was just under $17.00 before leaving a tip. We definitely felt like we go a lot for our money and are looking forward to returning - especially for the ice cream. It was easy to see why it's been voted the "best" for so many years.

Abandon taste buds all ye who enter here. I decided to stop at this restaurant for ice cream since it was close to my hotel and I didn't feel inclined to drive into Charleston for dessert. Their ice cream is reasonably acceptable, but just the sight of the food they were serving was nothing short of horrifying. Food: As is readily apparent from its name, Ye Ole Fashioned specializes in ice cream and poor quality comfort food. They claim that they're "not fast food, but awesome food served fast", but I'd contend otherwise. "Awesome" wouldn't exactly be the adjective I'd use to describe the food offerings at a restaurant which prominently advertises that it serves Kraft macaroni n' cheese. That being said, the only real thing that this place has going for it, which is probably what has kept them open for 40 years, is their ice cream. The ice cream is available in a variety of different flavors and can be served in either a cone or a dish; toppings can also be added for an additional charge. During my brief visit, I opted for a small banana pudding (2 large scoops) with peanut butter sauce. It certainly wasn't the best banana ice cream I've had, but the quality and quantity matched the price point. Service: The staff at Ye Ole Fashioned are young and friendly. The food and ice cream are served at two different counters that are both adequately staffed, so the wait time at both counters was minimal. Atmosphere: This is not the type of place you would go to impress a date, at least not if you actually liked them. The tables and chairs are reminiscent of a typical fast food chain and there are a handful of video games along the front wall of the restaurant that spew random sounds approximately every 30 seconds. This, coupled with the small tribe of children running throughout the dining room with reckless abandon, made for a fairly unpleasant dining experience. Cost: Inexpensive. A small cup of ice cream is around $3, while a medium and large are around $4 and $5, respectively. Toppings cost approximately $1.25 each. The food is also inexpensive, with most offerings priced at $5 or less. All major credit cards are accepted. Other: Ye Ole Fashioned has its own parking lot, which was a refreshing sight after enduring the limited number of parking options in Charleston earlier in the day. They also have an ample supply of outdoor seating.

The banana split was delicious. The thing i noticed most was that the chocolate ice cream in it was unbelievable.

Atmosphere: Kinda an old school diner/ice cream joint. Maybe a throwback attempt at Norman Rockwell with a little University pride(Georgia) thrown in. Not exactly what I would call clean... but it is popular with little kids. Expect things to be sticky... Service: Good for highschool kids. It brought back memories of my early work experience when the manager told a few of them, "If you go time to lean, you got time to clean." Don't expect miracles and you'll be fine. Food: Suprising for what I expected to be just a Ice Cream joint. Sandwiches, salads, hotdogs, all sorts of good greasy diner fare. As the warning says on the board... Our food is good because it contains fat and calories, enjoy in moderation. Bottom-line: Tasty. Worth the trip. Bring the kids, just wash your hands and don't wear anything you don't want stained or sticky.

Love this place. Ate here 3 times on our 4 day vacation because the food was just THAT good. I got a hot dog, crinkle fries and cotton candy milkshake. My boyfriend got a grilled cheese sandwich, onion rings and the other two times he got a chili cheese dog and a Milky Way milkshake. The footlong hot dogs were so huge we had to order a regular the next time we came. The milkshakes were ridiculously delicious. The wait staff was friendly and the food came out fast, fresh and hot. The restaurant itself is clean and just like a diner should be. I will definitely eat here every time I vacation here.

I dont know why this place got that many 1 star reviews. For me and my husband, it is great and it should be A++. We got the ice cream which is nutty coconut, banana pudding and praline & cream. It tastes so amazing and we really enjoy every spoon of this. Then, we got juicy burger and foot long chilly dog. I truly enjoy it and so do my husband. Yes, we will come back to this place for sure.

Got the burger and fries last night. I've lived in Charleston 22 years and finally decided to give it a try. First, went through the drive through and no prices are listed on the menu so whatever you order, the price is a mystery. Second, the burger's bun was too thin to support the burger and started to fall apart, the meat had bone chips and the pickles tasted plastic. I wouldn't order the burger again or take it if it were free, the bone chips sunk the overall experience. Fries. I ordered a small fry and was told there was only a large fry available. Seriously, in a time of epidemic obesity, you will only give the customer the maximum amount of fries. The fries were tasty. I would find a family of four and order them again.

One day after work I was craving some ice cream and google texted "Ice cream mt pleasant, sc". Got the address of this place and figured I'd get my ice cream fix. I ordered a scoop of banana split and a scoop of pistachio. I didn't think there was such thing as "bad ice cream." It was so bad that I didn't finish it and if you know me, that definitely says something. The ice cream had that ice-y texture and had that awful artificial flavor. The banana flavor was like that of banana runts. Just bad...

Not sure why this place has gotten negative reviews as our meal was fantastico. The burgers were juicy and tasted like they were right off the grill. The chocolate ice cream we had was very creamy and smooth. Also, the staff was courteous and prompt. Everyone should at least give this place a try.
